The TVs go on sale this weekend at Sony stores and are due to hit Best Buy store by October 24th. Those extra keen for a?piece?of Sony Android TV goodness can also?pre-order now. No word on European availability.
Four TVs were launched today with 26 up to 46 inch screens and prices ranging from $599 to $1399. All feature internet connectivity, Google services and downloadable App support. An internet enabled BluRay player was also announced. The TVs don’t have a mass data storage build in and will rely on an external DVR. The Google TV OS will make it easy to search across the DVR, TV and web. It’s unclear what makes of DVRs are supported,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], although we would take a wild guess that Sony’s will be one.
“The World’s First Internet TV” – a bold claim from Sony made in today’s New York keynote unveiling of their new Google TV?product line up. The Sony Internet TV aims to be more of an integrated media hub than a traditional TV, complete with keyboard style remote and integrated WiFi. Of course the most?interesting?feature is the Android based Goolge TV software which will allow Android Market downloads.
The Android based Google TV platform will feature popular apps like Twitter, Napster & Netflix and will include a full browser. App developers can get on board and build Android Apps or retool their existing Android Apps to work on the TVs

The TV’s will feature apps such as Twitter, Napster,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Netflix and a Google Chrome full browser. Android developers can build app or enhance their own websites for use on the new set of TV’s.
We like the sound of Sony’s efforts here; it’s about time the TV market had a shake up rather than the perpetual churn of ’60% thinner’ and ’70% brighter’ models. Of course, Sony may just start the ball rolling with the use of Android in TVs, and that can only be a good thing.
