***********
We broke protocol. For the first time ever, we had … a program!
Thanks so much to Glenora general manager Dave Warren, David Martin, Gary Schmidt, Nelson Kong, Shauna Hostland and executive chef Jamie Stewart for their top-notch hospitality.
No more programs, cheap nfl jerseys, as the Art of Conversation is determinedly non-agenda, focused purely on the opportunity for Edmontonians from all walks of life simply to drop by, have a drink, and enjoy good conversation with new acquaintances, who, football jerseys, with each Art of Conversation, morph into friends.
Well that was just about the finest Art of Conversation ever, but then again, the last one is always the best one ever!
The venue, the Royal Glenora Club, pulled out all the stops, hosting our monthly get-together (with no purpose other then convivial conversation) on the club’s new patio deck that overlooks its beautiful new pool. The new pool and patio are covered for year-round use (think of the West Edmonton Mall’s World Waterpark) but in the summer, the roof opens up. If you want to have a look, The Royal Glenora is open to the public for its excellent Sunday brunch.
We will carry on!
Normally, one has to be a member of the club to dine at the Royal Glenora, but as mentioned above, Sunday brunches are open to the public and I’d recommend anything that Jamie oversees.
The next Art of Conversation will be our traditional Christmas gathering at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, date soon to be announced . I may be retiring as a full-time columnist here at the Edmonton Sun, as of Dec. 31, but Rob and Audie won’t hear of my retiring from the Art of Conversation.
It was only two minutes, all arranged by Rob and Diane’s good friend Norma Jean Olivier. It had been our co-host Rob Christie of Capital FM’s 60th birthday a few days before. Out came a surprise birthday cake and cupcakes, minimal words from yours truly, Rob’s Capital FM sidekick Audie Lynds and friend Ted Power, football jerseys, then a champagne toast courtesy of the Royal Glenora. And of course a rendition of Happy Birthday.
But this one, Art of Conversation LI, was truly special.
Rob Christie had a 60th birthday surprise at the 51st gathering of the Art of Conversation
Rob was tickled pink!
The food, incidentally, out of Glenora executive chef Jamie Stewart’s kitchen, is certainly among the best to be had in Edmonton. Part of the art of conversation was enjoying Jamie’s talents – a delicate, subtle cleansing salmon and halibut “Napoleon” the fillets presented as a pair, with the most delicious lobster cream to fill out the flavours. Plus one of the tastiest zabaglioni desserts I’ve ever tried, almost floating in the mouth it was so light. |
