Engadget decided to comment on the Photography Blog’s recent review of Canon’s new PowerShot SX30 superzoom camera. Interestingly enough, the new model got a review that’s not too different from the review the PowerShot SX20 received last year. With this previous model, the focal range was praised while the image quality was identified as a major weakness and now it seems that history has repeated itself.

This time around, the SX30 features 35x focal range,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], extending from 24mm to 840mm and it has impressive IS as well. However, problems with the camera are two-fold: shots are noisy anywhere north of ISO 400, and chromatic aberrations cause an imbalance in Technicolor for contrast shots. Nonetheless, it’s a very reliable, digital imaging device overall, although it doesn’t get high marks for quality. Thus, the PowerShot SX30 is available for $429 MSRP, which may or may not be a justified price, considering its performance.
